The Killer Elite is an action film with headlined by Jason Statham, Clive Owen and the living legend, Robert DeNiro. It is based on the 1991 novel The Feather Men by Sir Ranulph Fiennes. The trailer looks a tad by-the-books, but I can’t deny that it looks like a bad-ass action film that just might deliver the goods.
DeNiro plays Hunter, the mentor of a retired member of Britain’s Elite Special Air Service named Danny Bryce (Statham). Hunter is taken captive by a dangerous man named Spike (Owen), and he forces Danny to kill three assassins dispatched by Spike.
Hopefully it’s as fun to watch as the trailer makes it out to be, but it is directed by an unknown director named Gary McKendry (his debut feature film). On the other hand, it has a talented cast and a promising trailer. Yes, some may think DeNiro is too old to kick ass in an action film, but he has kicked ass before and I bet he could pull it off again, even in his late 60s.
“I just did a movie with Robert De Niro and Clive Owen, and that kind of has both (Action and Drama) which is something that I would like to say that’s really what I want to do. You know if it’s a good story and it’s got great characters and some great action in it, then we ring all the bells,” Statham said in an interview.
